MIDTOWN MMA HOUSTON IS A MARTIAL ARTS ACADEMY THAT SPECIALIZES IN BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU, JUDO, MUAY THAI KICKBOXING AND BOXING FOR ALL-AGES.
Achieving goals are just one aspect of what we do. Here are some reviews from our martial arts family!
Midtown MMA is a great spot to train. I was only in town for a few days and after one night training bjj here, I was really contemplating extending my stay in Houston. Chris has created an extremely welcoming atmosphere where everyone is friendly and respectful. The class was taught with step by step details so that beginners could learn the technique but also more experienced belts could fine tune their techniques as well. I highly recommend this gym for anyone new to Houston looking for a home or even if you are just visiting. Thanks again and hopefully I will be back soon.
Love this gym so much! I trained here back in 2016-2017 before moving to LA and have found it hard to find another gym with the same caliber of coaches and curriculum. Every time I come back to Houston, I always make the drive from Sugar Land to get a few training sessions in with Coach Chris. Highly highly recommend if you want great instruction and a new family or community. Thanks for everything Midtown MMA! You started my obsession with kickboxing and bjj.
This was my first time trying out MMA. Everyone is so friendly here and it was overall such a great experience. I wasn't pressured to do anything if I wasn't feeling good or was winded. They care about your safety. The gym is very clean and overall I think I found my gym. Chris showed me around and was very very educated about what he does and the hospitality was amazing.
I had never taken any kind of martial arts class before but decided to act on a long-held interest and actually do something about it. I looked at several places online and ultimately decided to go with Midtown MMA. I couldn't be happier with my decision.
Coach Chris is great. You start off with an individual consultation, where Coach Chris walks you through a warm up and some basics of kickboxing and jiu-jitsu. Then you go to the classes and that's where you get hooked. Like I said, I've never done this before, and as a woman was at first a little intimidated, but everyone has just been so nice and helpful. The classes are small enough that Coach Chris has always gotten to me if I have a question or am not doing it right; just don't be afraid to ask. I just wish I didn't travel so much so I could be there more regularly. If you are thinking at all about MMA, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing or just getting in shape, run; do not walk, to Midtown MMA.
I've been here training at Midtown MMA Houston for a year now all the programs they offer are superb such as judo, jujitsu, and Muay Thai and kickboxing and the instructor is very knowledgeable in all of these different types of martial arts, and when he does a demonstration he is very technical. Plus, the workouts will definitely test your limits.
I cannot say enough good things about Midtown MMA. I started training BJJ here a couple of years ago, and at the time, I knew almost nothing about the sport. Of course that changed quickly through Coach Chris's detailed instruction and the help of my teammates. In a short time, I went from knowing nothing to competing in tournaments and taking home medals. Not to mention, I am in better shape, my confidence levels have increased, my mind is sharper, and I have made a great bunch of friends through training.
I also joined the Muay Thai program earlier this year, and I am having a great time learning that as well. Again, I knew nothing about this sport at the start, but my skills are progressing quickly. My strength, stamina, balance, and flexibility have improved more than I thought was possible, and it is a great stress reliever after a hard day at work.
Overall, the atmosphere and camaraderie at Midtown MMA are hard to match. Our team is a great group from all walks of life. Some are training for the cage, some for BJJ tournaments, and others just for the health, fitness, and fun that come along with it. The facility is in a great location, and it has everything you need to accomplish your goals. Whether you are a beginner or have been training for years, I highly recommend joining the school and our team. It was one of the best decisions that I have ever made.
I studied under Mr. Chris Martinez for the sole purpose of relieving stress in my first year of law school. The man is extremely patient, and his heart is in his practice as evidenced by all the time and effort that he has invested in expanding his practice to his new location on Main. I wish I could've hung around, but I prefer to be out of shape.
We found Midtown MMA quite by chance this past summer. My son was cycling through summer camps and I thought it would be worth trying the day camp hosted by Midtown MMA and give my son some exposure to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (he calls it Jitsu). My son ended up finishing the summer here and we joined the gym for two lessons each week and regular week end demonstration events. We're glad we did.
My son was lacking some self-confidence when we first arrived and had little interest in fitness. Within a week, he was doing push-ups in the bath tub each morning. I can see the changes in his character. He was looking forward to each day at the camp and now looks forward to each of the two lessons he takes each week. It's not a matter of peeling him off the sofa....my son is SO enthusiastic to go. My wife and I are also enthusiastic about his participation.
My son looks up to Coach Chris as a leader. The other gym staff are properly attentive to him. My son has taken up friendships with the other children training at the gym. There is a nice community spirit at the gym. The gym is clean. I am proud of my son's accomplishments and feel that he may not have been as successful at a gym other than Midtown MMA.
Great place to train, Coach Chris and the staff are awesome. The atmosphere is more like being at a family event, than in a gym. Everybody is out to help you get better at your techniques. I am currently not at the gym due to scheduling differences but when there I only trained in Muay Thai and was able to learn solid technique and amazing conditioning. Coach Chris was never to busy to help out a new person to martial arts as I was and with his coaching I was able to join the Advanced Muay Thai class in no time. As soon as my schedule opens back up I will be returning to Midtown MMA to continue my training. I live in Humble and will only train at Midtown MMA.
I have known Coach Chris for several years and what he is doing for his team and the Martial Arts community is incredible! His passion for helping others reach their goals is second to none and his students are a reflection of his dedication. Midtown MMA is a legit Jiu-Jitsu academy with technical instructors with high character. Give them a try, you will love it!
I didn't have any experience with any martial arts. However, I found the environment at Midtown MMA to be quite welcoming. The introductory lesson and the trial alone are worth paying a visit to this gym. I signed up for a 1 year contract upon my first visit since I had been shopping around at different gyms and really enjoyed the vibe here. I was unaware of a 1 month free trial and Coach Chris informed me of the trial after I had stated I wanted to sign up. The students are friendly and the gym environment is very clean. Unfortunately, due to mounting medical expenses (unrelated to BJJ or Midtown MMA) I had to find a second job and was no longer able to attend classes shortly after signing up. Without going into too much detail, I just want to say that Coach Chris worked with me in my specific situation and I can confidently say that I am looking forward to going back to classes once again. If anyone is on the fence, I can personally vouch for Coach Chris's honesty and integrity. If you're looking for a patient instructor and an honorable person to do business with, give Midtown MMA a shot.
Been training at Midtown MMA 3 to 4 days a week since late November of 2016. The classes are intense and will give you what you seek. After a few weeks there, you begin to feel like one big family. I look forward to many years to come...
As far as getting an amazing workout and being part of a great community Midtown MMA is the best. I recently started doing Jiu Jitsu and the community and the coaching is incredible. Very friendly coaches and everyone here is willing to take the time to work with you as well as help you grow in your training. I couldn't speak higher of an experience and recommend this with no reservations.
I've been training BJJ for about a year and a few months at Midtown MMA, part of Team Tooke. It is one of the best decisions of my life. Coach Chris is a wonderful instructor and professor, not only he has an extensive knowledge, but he knows how to break each and every detail down, and explain them in different ways so everybody can understand, and he will show the technique from different angles and several times, after he explained the technique we (students) pair up and practice, while he observes everyone do it and if he notices something that is wrong or something that might make the "move" flow better he will explain it and make sure all of us had time to practice it several times, after passing to the next move. Good professors are not good because they know a lot, but because they are able to transmit their vast knowledge in an easy to understand way. Several occasions he explains the "what if.... Happens" after a move. The people that come and train here are totally identified with the core of this MMA School, respect, integrity and honor. I consider my MMA school part of my family. I would love to explain the energy the Muay Thai and BJJ group have, but unfortunately typing might not reflect the amazing experience that Midtown MMA has to offer.
